Lars at Web Monday in Berlin

Monday, July 16th, 2007

Web Monday “connects users, developers, founders, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, researchers, web pioneers, bloggers, podcasters, designers and other folks interested in Web 2.0 topics (in the broadest sense)” - as they say about themselves.

This event takes place once per month on a Monday in several cities around Germany. Today, I was flying to Berlin to spend a week in the Mindquarry office and, hey - it’s Web Monday!

Right now, I sit in the Newthinking office and listen to Lars‘ presentation of Mindquarry.

I am happy to be here, together with 40 other attendees. Lars told me that usually it is even more people - cool! If you’re in Berlin on a Monday, check if it’s Web Monday, it’s worth being there.

I am also happy to be here because finally, I got the chance to meet with Markus Beckedahl face-to-face.

Sandro and Stephan on Tour in California

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

01052007116Just uploaded some pictures of our trip to Monterey, LA, SF and our first day.

Stephan already wrote a bit about our trip and I won’t add anything to that, because I really don’t like blog posts where people write about all the problems they had on their plane or train or car or etc. ride.

You can find the pictures in my Flickr collection for this trip. I will be adding some more pictures in the next few days until we’re back home Sunday - just keep an eye on the collection for updates.

Together with Mindquarry’s CEO Stephan Voigt, I’ll be attending Red Herring Spring in Monterey, CA. We’ll fly to LA April 30 and plan to be in Monterey May 1-3. It looks as if we’ll be in San Francisco a few hours during May 1st and definitely at May 4th. Back in LA May 5th to fly back.

If you’re around and would like to meet, drop me a line: sandro [dot] groganz [at] mindquarry [dot] com.

Major Open Source Event in Romania: eLiberatica

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

Good ‘ol friend Zak pointed me to a major Open Source event in Romania: eLiberatica.

Intro blurb from their site:

The eLiberatica Conference brings community leaders from around the world to talk about the hottest topics in FLOSS (Free/Libre/Open Source Software) movement demonstrating the advantages of adopting, using and developing Open Source and Free Software solutions.

Some of the stars will be speaking there: Rasmus Lerdorf, Monty Widenius, Brian Behlendorf, Aleksander Farstad and of course Zak himself. The sessions and workshops cover various interesting topics, they all are in English. The registration fee is quite moderate: 249 EUR and even less if you book now.

If you’re close, don’t miss it from May 18th-19th in BraÅ?ov, Romania.

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

Arrived in Badajoz yesterday for the Free Software World Conference. Right now I sit in the empty “Sala Azul” with Görkem.

The venue looks nice, plenty of people. Unfortunately, all talks in Spanish yet, even Richard Stallman’s.

Just met Erkan, who leads the Pardus project. That’s a Linux distribution mainly for the Turkish market and it’s financed by the Turkish government. They pay 15 full time Linux devs - seems like the largest state run Linux developers group. Will write more about that project later.

3rd Free Software World Conference (Feb 7-9)

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

I’ll be at the 3rd Free Software World Conference in Badajoz/Spain from February 7-9. Last year’s event was huge with 6500 attendees.

I will be one of the presenters of the tOSSad EU project, where I am a member of the steering committee on behalf of eZ.

Will you be there as well?

Vancouver PHP Conference

Call for Papers: eZ Conference 2007

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

BÃ¥rd published a short note on his blog that the call for papers for the 5th annual eZ Conference is now open. Deadline for submissions is February 1st.

The conference is worth attending not only for eZ Publish or eZ Components users and geeks, it is also interesting if you’re interested in content and knowledge management or PHP/LAMP in general. Last year, I enjoyed talking to guests such as Martin White and Anne Jubert, Rasmus Lerdorf and David Axmark - and some more of the 350 attendees.
